What's the best menopause supplement?
Tell me if this sounds familiar...
You hit perimenopause, the mood swings or night sweats set in - and now you need relief and you need it fast.
Do you need to take hormones? Or is there a natural supplement that will work? And if so - what the heck is it?
So - is there a magic pill out there - yes and no.
There are safe, all-natural supplements that can work incredibly - well - but it's not just one ingredient - not just one pill that does it all.
What most women do is take something- that - even if its on the right track - just isnt enough on its own. Those women may get a little relief but its not significant and it often doesnt last.
And - what makes this all a bit more complicated is that the supplements that will work for you - are different than the ones that will work for your firend or sisters.
And the ones that work for you right now- will change... Two years form now you'll likely need something quite different.
In other words - what you're taking needs to be customized for your body and your hormones at a particular point in time!
So how do you find what you need??
Let's start this way:
Consider using a supplement from each of the following categories - that can give you a great starting point.
Menopause supplement category one: Phytoestrogens
Plant estrogens can be wonderfully helpful in helping your body keep hormone levels high enough, and they are considered by MANY to be safer than animal estrogens.
The most common ones you'll hear about are black cohosh, soy, and red clover...
But it's possible to be much more specific and customized when choosing with phytoestrogen-rich herbs to choose.
Menopause supplement category two: Adaptogens
Adaptogens help your body's own regulatory mechanisms to work better - more efficiently and effectively. This is VERY important when it comes to hormones during menopause.
Some of the most common adaptogens you'll hear mentioned for menopause are maca, ashwaganda, and ginseng.
And I tend to love all adaptogens - but AGAIN - we can be way more customized when we choose which ones to use. For example, ginseng is an excellent adaptogen and it can help with fatigue and digestive health! But some types of ginseng are quite warming and drying to the body (NOT what we usually want during menopause,) while other types of ginseng are just as adaptogenic but are cooling and moistening.
Menopause supplement category three: Vitamins and Minerals
Making sure your body has an ample supply of all the most important micronutrients is important - and minerals are just as (if not MORE) important to consider supplement with than vitamins.
The key is to find high quality supplement that are highly bioavailable, activated, and ready and easy for your body to use.
A good multivitamin is a great place to start but you might need to add extra magnesium, vitamin D, or a B-complex...
Menopause supplement category four: Fish oil
Fish oil and healthy fats in general are just so important with so many benefits - consider adding one to your routine.
Menopause supplement category five: Liver and detox support
Liver health & detoxification are SO OVERLOOKED! Yet so many women suffer from signs of estrogen dominance during & after menopause - and this is the place to start getting help for that.
The most commonly mentioned supplements you'll find are milk thistle, bitters, and dandelion root, which are great, but like so many detox herbs are quite draining to the energy and drying to the body.
So AGAIN, we can choose different herbs for liver health that are more supportive.
And it's also KEY for good detox (especially estrogen detox) that you have enough fiber (fruites and veggies) in your diet.
Walk away with this:
Yes - there are supplements that can help immensely during menopause - but don't waste your time or money on them unless you have some knowledge and a sound strategy on how to choose the ones that are right for you.
